Using Phalaenopsis orchid kids is the easiest way to propagate this plant at home. They can be of two types:
- grown on a peduncle;
- basal.
The latter use the root system of the mother plant. They are formed in those cases when the plant soon ceases to exist and before that gives up its vitality for reproduction.
To grow a new Phalaenopsis, use those that grow on peduncles after the flowers have wilted. They grow from sleeping buds. Within six months, the children form the root system. After that they need to be disconnected and put off. Then the sprouts need to be grown until they gain strength.
How do they look
Children on peduncles arise some time after the completion of flowering. In some cases, several can grow them. Sometimes they do not form. However, you need to know what to do if an orchid has a baby.
As soon as they begin to grow, you can see how green leaves grow from a sleeping kidney. A few months later, the root system begins to appear. It looks like several sprouts of white color, each of which ends with a green sharp end. Usually two or three such root processes are formed.

After the orchid has faded, you need to wait a while. In this case, it may turn out that the sleeping kidney has awakened, and green leaves began to grow from it. This suggests that the baby begins to grow orchids on the peduncle. For its formation, it is necessary to spend at least six months. Sometimes in this situation, another peduncle can grow.
The appearance of leaflets suggests that for the further formation of a new plant, it is necessary to provide appropriate care. In order to plant and root the baby, it is necessary to ensure the formation of the root system. The shoots should reach a length of 4-6 centimeters. Before they occur, a spherical thickening should form on the branch, from which they will grow.

For growing, the peduncle is placed in a plastic bottle, in which the neck must be cut. Its depth should be such that the plant can fit comfortably. Boiled and settled water is poured into the tank for 2-3 centimeters. You need to add one tablet of activated carbon.
Important! For plants, it is necessary to provide good lighting. At the same time, they should not be placed in direct sunlight. If the peduncle is placed on the windowsill, then during the active sun it needs to provide shading.
When you want to see sleeping buds on a branch, you need to consider that they may not wake up at all. In this case, they are advised to help. Usually they are covered with bark, which must be cut. After this, it is recommended to lubricate the kidney with a special stimulating paste based on cytokinins. This treatment is carried out once a week for a month.

Important! Before work tools are recommended to be disinfected. To do this, just dip them in boiling water.

- The cut point is lubricated with coal dust for disinfection.
- For planting, you need to prepare plastic bottles with a cut off top. Their depth should be such that the roots fit freely. Below, several holes are made in order to provide drainage.
- Plants must be held in water so that it covers the roots. Do this for 20 minutes. This is necessary so that they are not overdried when they are put in plastic pots.
- Now you need to prepare a substrate in which the children of Cattleya or Phalaenopsis will grow. It is prepared in a separate container. A small piece of charcoal is placed there, the crushed bark is added, then sphagnum moss is added in small pieces.
- After that, you need to seat the children in plastic containers, cutting so that their depth corresponds to the root system. Then add the substrate so that it covers the roots.

When the baby at the Phalaenopsis peduncle is disconnected and planted in a plastic pot, it is necessary to ensure optimal conditions for its development. To do this, it is covered with polyethylene and provide suitable conditions for growth. Daily ventilation is required.
Important! Adequate light should be provided. The optimal daylight hours for these plants is at least 5-6 hours. At the same time, it is important that direct rays do not fall on them in strong sunlight.
Flowers can be removed from the greenhouse after several more leaves grow on the sprouts. After that, they can be looked after in the same way as for adult plants.
